Daniel runs 7:03 in the mile!
At school today, Daniel crushed his previous PR of 7:40 in the mile, clocking a 7:03 mile! He's consistently the 2nd or 3rd fastest in his class. There is one ringer in his class who runs 6:40 or so.

Derek was absolutely dominate in his soccer game this Saturday, scoring two goals, getting two assists, and he had another shot blocked right at the edge of the goal line. He was so incredible.
He is the only one on the field that can take the ball coast to coast, dribbling through defenders, and shoot on goal. He is by far the fastest guy on the field and he knows it. He uses this to his advantage by taking the ball wide, into open ground and just running awayfrom everyone. It is awesome to see and I'm so proud. When he gets the ball the game accelerates by a factor of two or three and that takes most of the other players out of the game completely. It is so exciting to watch. The other parents tell there kids to get in front of the goal when Derek is in the game so that they can get a goal. Derek is always looking to pass, probably too much with the talent on his team. There are a few of good players on the team, but the rest are pretty clueless.
Daniel won his election this week and is now his 4th grade class representative along with another girl. There are two representatives per class - sort of like senators. Daniel said the girl who won with him had the best speech and he voted for her. Daniel was the only one to use hand gestures. I coached him to use these. Eight people ended up running for representative and each had to get up and give a speech and then the whole class voted. Daniel won his first political campaign. He's planning to run for school President next year. Only fifth graders can run for this position. His elementary school is K-5.
Daniel is running for his 4th grade class representative. He's written a short campaign speech, made a campaign poster, and now apparently has a strategy as well. He has it all figured out how to win his class elections. He said he's the only boy in the running, and there are three girls. There are 14 boys in his class and 11 girls. He figures all he has to do is get all the boys to vote for him. He is so cute. He also asked Sheri the difference between a Democrat and a Republican. She declined to explain it, saying to ask his father.
He expanded on this strategy further to me last night. He said, "Daddy, boys will just vote for the boy, but girls might vote for a girl or a boy. Plus, the girl vote will be split among the three of them." I don't know if he's going to play the "gender card" in his speech, but he's already analyzing things like a politician... But what if it gets out that he still likes to have his mommy brush his teeth? Can you imagine the scandal? MommyGate 2004! The election is this week. Hopefully he can keep a lid on things and avoid the Superior Girls For Representation (SGR)
dirty tricks squad.
